Open to international students, the IMB International PhD Program invites candidates to pursue their doctoral studies in Mainz, Germany. This program, known as the International PhD Program (IPP), presents an unparalleled opportunity for enthusiastic learners to delve into cutting-edge biology studies. Projects within the program address critical topics concerning Gene Regulation, Epigenetics & Genome Stability, forming the overarching theme.

Our consortium boasts a diverse array of expertise in biochemistry, genetics, cell and developmental biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, and applied physics. The program offers an array of techniques to explore, ranging from CRISPR/Cas and NGS to gene network modeling, mass spectrometry, and super-resolution microscopy. Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates applying for the IMB International PhD Program must meet the following requirements:

  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English is mandatory.
  • Eligibility: Open to candidates from all countries worldwide.
  • Educational Background: Details of your Bachelor's (BSc) and Master's (MSc) degrees are required.
  • Additional Academic Achievements: Include any post-graduate degrees, awards, honors, or distinctions in a description of maximum 250 words.
  • Research Experience: Provide details of any research stays abroad during your studies and past research experiences.
  • Publications and Conference Contributions: List your publications in PubMed format (maximum 300 words) and include conference contributions specifying the presentation title, date, and location of the conference.
  • Preferred Research Groups: Select up to 5 research groups you're interested in working with; note that not all groups offer projects in every application cycle.
  • Motivational Statement: Write a statement of maximum 300 words expressing your interest in the IPP, your chosen research groups, and outlining your scientific goals.

  • Single File Compilation (max size 4 MB) containing:

Application Procedure:

To apply for the IMB International PhD Program, follow these essential steps:

  1. Online Registration:

    • Begin by registering online using the provided link. Enter your contact details and the information of at least two referees. These referees should be established scientists like group leaders or professors who are familiar with your work.
  2. Online Application Form:

    • Upon registration, an email with a personalized link to the online application form will be sent to you. Follow the guidelines provided in the email.

  3. Interview Days:

    • Approximately 25 to 30 shortlisted candidates will be invited to Mainz for interviews scheduled from 24th to 26th June.
    • The interview process spans 3 days and includes presentations by Group Leaders and applicants, along with in-depth interviews with the groups you express interest in working with.
    • All costs for accommodation and travel, including intercontinental travel, will be covered by the IPP for the selected candidates attending the interviews.
