The use of digital twins in horticultural supply chain is a growing area of interest. Digital twins are virtual representations of real produce, designed to mimic biological processes in response to external conditions. This PhD project, part of a larger government-funded research project, aims to develop digital twin models specifically for apple growth and development, and fruit storage. The project will collect sensor data over multiple growth seasons to develop fruit models and incorporate them into larger tree models for simulation. The successful candidate will receive a stipend and tuition fees for three years, and will work primarily on Massey University's Manawatu campus in New Zealand. They will be expected to travel internationally for conferences and collaborate with international research groups. Applicants should send their documents to Dr. Mo Li.
