The international Leo Baeck Fellowship Program is designed for doctoral candidates engaged in dissertation research related to the history and culture of Central European Judaism. This program welcomes projects from various historical periods, academic disciplines (such as literature, philosophy, history, musicology), and geographical regions (including Europe, America, and Israel) that have a connection to German-speaking Judaism.


In addition to financial support for one year, the program facilitates opportunities for scholarly exchange and networking. It is open to doctoral candidates of all nationalities, hailing from universities worldwide. Fellows continue their research at their respective universities and convene for two workshops, jointly organized by the Leo Baeck Institute London and the Study Foundation.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • Contributions to cover tuition fees outside Germany may be granted (max. 10,000 €).

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the Leo Baeck Fellowship program, candidates are required to meet the following criteria:

  • Eligibility: Open to candidates from all countries around the world.
  • Academic Qualifications: Must hold a university degree(s) with exceptional academic performance.
  • Graduation Date: The most recent degree should have been obtained not earlier than February 2019.
