University of Minho Excellence Scholarships for International Students, Portugal

Scholarship Description:

University of Minho Scholarships offer crucial financial support to economically disadvantaged students whose households cannot afford the expenses associated with attending the University. These scholarships are jointly funded by the European Social Fund and the Portuguese State through the POPH program. The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education governs the allocation of scholarships, setting the amounts and eligibility conditions for students to apply. Scholarship Benefits:

• The scholarships have the same pecuniary value as the annual tuition fee, and their delivery is accompanied by a diploma. 
• The value of the Scholarships of Excellence will be shared, in equal parts, by the budget of the rectory and the UOEI in whose Pedagogical Council the course is managed.
•  The awards will be presented in a Solemn Session promoted by the Rectory and the UOEI.
  

Eligible Nationalities:

This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities. 

Eligibility Criteria:

The Excellence Scholarship, awarded annually by the University of Minho to students of undergraduate and integrated master's courses,  is intended to reward:

• the student whose application grade for their course was the highest;
  
• the student who, in his/her course, had the highest grade in the previous academic year​;
  
• the student who has completed the course with the best performance in the last academic year.

Application Procedure:

To apply, candidates must fill out a separate application form within the specified dates. The decision to grant a scholarship is based on a comprehensive evy aluation of the candidate's application and supporting documents, which may be supplemented by interviews or home visits by qualified professionals in justified cases. It's crucial for candidates to provide accurate and complete information as any false declarations, inaccuracies, or omissions may lead to administrative, disciplinary, and/or criminal consequences, including repayment of the funds received.

The application process for the Excellence Scholarship at UMinho is competitive. The deadline for submitting applications is usually in December.
