Utrecht University and the Utrecht University Fund launched a new scholarship program called the Bright Minds Fellowships in 2017. The program aims to attract and retain talented students from diverse backgrounds and encourage global excellence and diversity among the university's student population.
The scholarships are available to EU/EEA students (including Dutch students) and there are approximately 10 awards available. The scholarship amount is €5,000 or €10,000.
The Bright Minds Fellowships are made possible by donations from Utrecht University alumni and the Utrecht University Fund.
Here are some additional details about the Bright Minds Fellowships:
"Being chosen for the Bright Minds Fellowship at Utrecht University (UU) was a game-changer for me. As a liberal arts and sciences student from a diverse background, I valued the interdisciplinary perspective I gained during my studies. UU recognized and valued this perspective during the admissions process, making me feel truly appreciated. Receiving the fellowship not only affirmed UU's commitment to diversity but also helped me finance my education independently, allowing me to pursue my academic dreams and make my parents proud. I hope future liberal arts and sciences students considering UU for their Master's degrees know that their unique backgrounds are valued here."
"The Bright Minds Fellowship was a significant recognition of my academic journey and accomplishments. As a student in the MA International Relations in Historical Perspective program at Utrecht University, I was thrilled to receive this honor in September 2017. My passion for history was ignited by my grandparents' stories about Operation Market Garden near my hometown of Groesbeek, which led me to pursue a degree in History at Utrecht University. In 2016, I also had the opportunity to be part of the Dare to be Grey project, aimed at reducing polarization in Dutch society, which enriched my studies and connected me to real-world applications of my knowledge.
With a background that combined a bachelor's degree in History, a minor in International Relations, and a minor in Conflict Studies, the MA International Relations in Historical Perspective was a natural progression for me. The Bright Minds Fellowship not only served as recognition for my past academic efforts but also allowed me to fully engage with and excel in my master's program. It has been an incredible opportunity to further my education and contribute to my personal and professional growth."
