WCADC Visual Arts Scholarship in the USA
The WCADC Visual Arts Scholarship is a valuable opportunity for talented BIPOC female-identifying students in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area who wish to pursue higher education in the field of visual arts. Offered by the Women’s Caucus for Art of Greater Washington, DC (WCADC), this scholarship aims to recognize artistic excellence and support students in achieving their educational and creative goals.
The scholarship provides one award of up to $5,000, which can be used for tuition, campus housing, and instructional materials. In addition, the top three applicants will have the opportunity to participate in an art exhibition, giving students additional exposure for their artistic work.
This scholarship is designed to empower young women artists and encourage diversity in the visual arts community.
Degree Level
The WCADC Visual Arts Scholarship is available for students enrolling in:
- Undergraduate degree programs
- Two-year college programs
- Four-year college or university programs

The scholarship is open for students pursuing studies in:
- Visual Arts
This includes majors related to:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Photography
- Sculpture
- Mixed Media
- Printmaking
- Collage

Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the WCADC Visual Arts Scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Must identify as BIPOC and female
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must currently be:
- A high school senior enrolled in a public school in DC, Maryland, or Virginia for the last two years, or
- A college freshman or sophomore originally from the DMV area
- Must be enrolled or planning to enroll as a Visual Arts major
- Must not be a member of WCADC or an immediate family member of a WCA member
- Must not have previously received the WCADC scholarship
Application Procedure
Students must submit an online application before the deadline and upload the required materials.

- Original artwork created within the last three years

- Reflection statement
Applicants may also request a WCADC mentor for help with portfolio review and application preparation.
Steps to apply:
- Complete the online application form.
- Prepare your portfolio of original artwork.
- Upload your process folio.
- Submit your reflection statement.
- Optionally request a mentor review.
- Submit the complete application by April 30 at 11:59 PM.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed by a panel of at least three professional judges.
Evaluation is based on:
- Original artwork – 50%
- Process folio and written statements – 50%
Important conditions:
- All work must be original and created individually
- Collaborative work is not accepted
- Artwork must not copy master artworks or comic art
- Judges’ decisions are final
