University of Tokyo Announces MEXT Scholarship for 2024-25

The University of Tokyo, in collaboration with the Japanese government, is offering the MEXT Scholarship for the academic year 2024-25. This fully-funded scholarship is open to international students aspiring to study at the University of Tokyo.

Scholarship Overview:

  • Coverage: The scholarship encompasses tuition fees, airfare, living expenses, and a monthly stipend. For the academic year 2023, the stipends were 144,000 yen/month for Master's students and 145,000 yen/month for Doctoral students. Additional allowances may be provided for study in specific regions.
  • Travel: Beneficiaries will receive an economy class air ticket from their nearest international airport to Japan. Return airfare is also covered if they depart within the final month of the scholarship tenure.
  • School Fees: Both enrollment and tuition fees will be waived for the recipients.
  • Duration & Location: The scholarship is designed for students entering Japan in October 2024 to pursue Master's or Doctoral programs at the Graduate School of Science, University of Tokyo.

Nationality Restrictions: The scholarship is open to students of all nationalities, provided they have diplomatic relations with the Japanese government. Japanese nationals residing outside Japan with dual nationality, planning to renounce their Japanese nationality before arrival, may also apply.
