    What is covered?

    The scholarships provide support for a variety of study and research opportunities in any field offered by accredited Croatian public universities or research institutions. The specific institution will be determined beforehand.

    Eligible Nationalities:

    Citizens from these countries are eligible to apply: Belgium (Flanders), Bulgaria, China, Czech Republic, Germany (Bavaria), Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Turkey, and Ukraine.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    Who can apply?

    The Bilateral Scholarship Program is open to two categories of international participants:

    • Higher Education Students and Staff: This includes students pursuing degrees and university faculty involved in research or teaching activities.
    • Croatian Language Learners: This includes students of Croatian language or Slavic Studies, regardless of their home country or program affiliation.

    Application Procedure:

    There are two application pools for the Bilateral Scholarship Program:

    Application Pool 1: Bilateral Agreements

    This pool is for citizens of countries that have:

    • A valid educational cooperation program with Croatia.
    • A bilateral agreement signed by the Croatian government and your country's relevant ministry.

    Application Process:

    • Eligibility Check: Confirm that your country is listed as eligible.
    • Nominate Yourself: Submit your application through the Agency's online system.
    • Home Institution Nomination: Contact your national institution responsible for selecting scholarship applicants. They will nominate you for the program (deadline: April 5, 2024).
    • Nomination Submission: The nominating institution should send your nomination letter (electronically or by mail) to the Agency for Mobility and EU Programmes by April 5, 2024.

    Application Pool 2: Scholarships for Croatian Language Students

    This pool is for international students currently enrolled in programs related to Croatian language or Slavic Studies, regardless of their home country or program affiliation.

    Scholarship Types:

    • Semester Studies: Pursue Croatian language studies for 4-5 months at either the University of Zagreb (Croaticum) or the University of Rijeka (Rijeka School of Slavic Studies).
    • Summer Seminar: Attend a 2-week intensive program on Croatian language and literature in Dubrovnik.

    Application Process:

    • Recommendation Letter: Obtain a recommendation letter from your current Croatian language instructor.
    • Online Application: Submit your application along with the recommendation letter through the Agency's online system by April 5, 2024.
