Degree Level:

MEXT Japanese Government Undergraduate Scholarships 2024 (Fully Funded) is available to undertake Bachelor level programs at Japan Universities.

Available Subjects:

Following subject are available to study under this scholarship program.

  • All Subjects

Program Duration:

  • Most fields: 5 years (including 1 year of Japanese language preparatory study)
  • Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Veterinary Science: 7 years (including 1 year of preparatory language study)

Scholarship Extension: The scholarship period can be extended for qualified students after a successful evaluation by MEXT.

Fields of Study:

Courses are taught entirely in Japanese. Here's a breakdown of the available fields:

Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH)

  • SSH-A: Law, Politics, Education, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese language, and other related fields.
  • SSH-B: Economics and Business Administration.

Natural Sciences (NS)

  • NS-A: Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture, Chemical Engineering, and other related fields.
  • NS-B: Agricultural Studies, Public Health, and Biology.
  • NS-C: Medicine and Dentistry.

Scholarship Benefits:

Monthly Allowance:

  • Base amount: ¥117,000
  • Additional regional allowance: ¥2,000 or ¥3,000 per month for designated regions (subject to change)
  • Note: Allowance payments may be suspended during extended absences from the university.

Education Fees:

  • MEXT covers entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition fees at universities.

Travel Expenses:

Coming to Japan:

  • MEXT provides an economy class ticket from your nearest international airport (ideally in your home country) to Japan upon arrival during their designated timeframe.
  • You are responsible for:
    1. Domestic travel to your nearest airport
    2. Airport taxes and fees
    3. Travel insurance
    4. Carry-on and unaccompanied baggage fees
    5. Any travel or lodging costs in a third country needed for visa purposes (if applicable)
    6. Travel within Japan (including airline transit costs)
  • MEXT may provide an economy class ticket to a third country if needed for visa applications and no direct flights exist from your home country.

Returning Home:

  • MEXT provides an economy class ticket upon graduation, returning you to your nearest international airport (ideally in your home country) by the end of your scholarship period.
  • You are responsible for:
    1. Travel from your residence in Japan to the nearest international airport
    2. Airport taxes and fees
    3. Travel insurance
    4. Carry-on and unaccompanied baggage fees
    5. Travel expenses within your home country (including airline transit costs)
  • MEXT will not cover return flights if you leave before the scholarship ends due to personal reasons or suspension of your scholarship.
  • MEXT will not cover travel expenses for temporary returns if you stay in Japan after your scholarship ends (e.g., for further education or employment).

Important Note: The amount of the monthly allowance and regional allowance may be subject to change based on the Japanese government's budget.

Eligible Nationalities:

This scholarship is open to international students of all nationalities.

Education:

  • Have completed coursework equivalent to a high school diploma (includes graduating students).
