The Master’s programme in Environment, Climate Change and Health at the University of Bayreuth offers an in-depth exploration of how environmental changes, particularly those related to climate, impact ecosystems and human health. This programme emphasizes the intricate relationship between society and the environment, utilizing research-led teaching and quantitative methodologies, while also providing opportunities for hands-on learning in advanced scientific facilities.
This programme is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in environmental geography and environmental systems science, followed by specialized thematic modules and research-driven projects.
Research and communication: Throughout the programme, students will refine their skills in scientific writing, oral presentation, and critical evaluation of research methodologies and findings.
Capstone / final work: The programme culminates in a significant academic component, such as a thesis or an equivalent research project.
Applicants must possess a relevant bachelor’s degree in fields such as economics, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences, health economics, nursing, philosophy & economics, medicine, or public health. A final grade of 2.5 or better on the German grading scale is required. The bachelor’s degree should also encompass at least 30 ECTS in health and/or natural science courses, ideally including (human) biology, (bio)chemistry, and geosciences.
Graduates of this programme are well-equipped for diverse career paths in academia, research institutions, governmental organizations, and non-governmental organizations. They can also pursue roles in public health, environmental consultancy, and policy development, contributing to the understanding and mitigation of climate-related health impacts.
