    The Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship 2025 offers an exceptional six-month duration, commencing in February 2025 and concluding in July. This initiative boasts a flexible structure, allowing Neuffer fellows to engage in academic research and enhance their reporting skills. Past fellows have actively published their work across various media platforms, furthering their professional growth under their byline.

    As a fully funded program, the 2025 Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship provides a fixed monthly stipend to cover living costs. Additionally, the IWMF covers round-trip economy class airfare, transportation between fellowship cities, and housing expenses, ensuring fellows can focus on their journalistic endeavors without financial worry.

    Selected fellows will spend four months at the Center for International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) from February to May, collaborating with IWMF to develop programs for academic research and reporting on human rights and social justice. Following this phase, Neuffer Fellows will relocate to New York City, undertaking a full-time internship at The New York Times from June to July.

    Throughout the fellowship, fellows will engage in a variety of enriching activities, including auditing classes, attending seminars and events, conducting independent research, and gaining practical experience in newsrooms. Neuffer fellows will also have the opportunity to audit classes at other nearby universities like Harvard.

    The IWMF Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship seeks to honor the legacy of Elizabeth Neuffer, a correspondent for The Boston Globe. The fellowship commemorates her dedication to journalism, following her tragic passing while reporting in Iraq in 2003.

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • The Neuffer Fellowship welcomes women and non-binary individuals, with a particular focus on those reporting on human rights and social justice issues.
    • The IWMF Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship accepts journalists from all corners of the globe, irrespective of nationality.
    • Applicants should possess a minimum of three years of full-time professional journalism experience.
    • Experience gained through internships or journalism-related activities during academic studies does not count toward the required professional experience.

    Program Requirements:

    • Successful applicants must commit to the entire six-month fellowship program.
