What you'll study

The degree combines core economic theory with quantitative tools and applied subjects. In the early years you study foundational modules such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics for economics, statistics and introductory econometrics. As you progress, typical modules include intermediate and advanced micro- and macroeconomic theory, applied econometrics, public economics, international economics, development economics, industrial organisation and labour economics.

Students also take courses in related fields such as accounting, corporate finance, business law and economic history to develop wider analytical and contextual skills. Practical training features laboratory classes for statistics and econometrics, computer-based exercises using statistical software, and project work or case studies. In the final year there is usually the opportunity to specialise through optional modules and to complete a supervised dissertation or capstone project.

Teaching methods combine lectures, seminars, tutorials and computer lab sessions. Many students complement coursework with internships, language courses and mobility periods abroad through Erasmus or other exchange agreements.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a recognised upper secondary school leaving qualification. A good command of mathematics at secondary level is expected, since quantitative methods form a key part of the programme. For programmes taught in Italian, applicants must demonstrate competence in Italian; prospective international students should check the language of instruction and may need to provide a recognised Italian language certificate or evidence of sufficient prior study in Italian. Where courses are available in English, proof of English proficiency may be required.

Admission may involve the submission of academic transcripts and, in some cases, an assessment of numerical aptitude or an institutional placement test.
