What you'll study

This programme combines core academic study with applied, practice-focused learning. You will study contemporary issues across health and social care systems, evidence-based practice and methods for service improvement. Teaching is delivered through lectures, seminars, case-based learning and supervised project work.

• Core modules (typical): Health and Social Care Systems; Research Methods and Statistics for Health; Evidence-Based Practice and Implementation; Leadership, Management and Improvement in Health and Care.
• Optional modules (typical): Integrated Care and Long-Term Conditions; Public Health and Prevention; Health Economics and Commissioning; Safeguarding and Ethical Practice; Mental Health in Community Settings.
• Dissertation / Applied Project: All students complete a substantial dissertation or an applied practice-based project, supervised by an academic with expertise matched to the topic. Projects often involve collaboration with NHS trusts, social care providers or voluntary organisations.
• Learning methods: A mix of taught sessions, blended learning, reflective practice, group work and independent study. Opportunities for interprofessional learning and workplace-based assessment are provided where appropriate.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a UK bachelor’s degree with honours, typically at 2:1 level, or an international equivalent. Applicants with a relevant 2:2 and substantial professional experience in health or social care may also be considered. Current clinicians, allied health professionals and experienced managers are welcome; part-time and flexible study options are often available to accommodate working professionals.

Non-native English speakers must meet the University’s English language requirements via a recognised qualification or test. Professional registrations, references and a statement explaining your motivation and relevant experience are usually required as part of the application.
