What you'll study

The programme combines theoretical courses with practical laboratory training to build competence across general, organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry. You will also take supporting subjects in mathematics, physics and computer applications, together with courses on research methods and scientific communication.

• Core chemistry modules: General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry.
• Laboratory and practical work: Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Organic Synthesis Laboratory, Instrumental Methods (e.g. spectroscopy, chromatography), Quality Control and Safety in the Laboratory.
• Supporting science and skills: Calculus and Applied Mathematics, Physics for Chemists, Computer Applications in Chemistry, Scientific English and Technical Writing.
• Advanced and elective topics: Environmental Chemistry, Biochemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Drug Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, depending on availability and student choice.
• Final-year project: An individual research project or applied study conducted under faculty supervision, emphasising experimental technique, data analysis and report writing.

Entry requirements

Admission normally requires a secondary school certificate or equivalent with a science stream and strong performance in chemistry, mathematics and physics. Candidates are typically evaluated on their cumulative grades and may need to meet faculty-specific minimums. Proficiency in Arabic and a working knowledge of English are important because scientific materials and many technical references are in English; some programmes may require an English placement test or preparatory courses for students with lower English ability.

International applicants should present an equivalent school-leaving qualification and additional documentation as requested by the university. Meeting the minimum academic requirements does not guarantee admission where programme demand is high.
