What you'll study

The programme combines advanced taught modules with a substantial research or industry project. Core themes typically include advanced software engineering, data analytics and machine learning, cybersecurity principles, and contemporary topics in information systems. Students study research methods and project management to prepare for the final dissertation or capstone project.

• Elective modules (examples): Cloud and Distributed Systems; Internet of Things and Embedded Systems; Human–Computer Interaction; Enterprise Architectures; Applied Cryptography.
• Project / Dissertation: An independent research or applied development project supervised by departmental staff or an industry partner. Projects emphasise original work, practical implementation, or evaluation in a real-world context.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold an undergraduate degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics or a closely related subject. Equivalent qualifications or substantial relevant professional experience may also be considered.

• A bachelor’s degree with a good honours classification (or recognised equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• Applicants without a direct technical background may be considered if they can demonstrate prior study in quantitative subjects or significant IT/work experience.
• Evidence of English language proficiency where required (for applicants whose first language is not English), and submission materials such as a CV and academic references.
• Shortlisted candidates may be invited to an interview or asked to provide a portfolio of work, depending on the chosen pathway.
