The doctoral programme centres on independent research leading to a doctoral dissertation that contributes new knowledge in the candidate's chosen field. Depending on the faculty and doctoral track you select, the programme typically includes:

• Advanced research methodology courses covering qualitative and quantitative methods, research design, and statistical or modelling techniques appropriate to the discipline.
• Research seminars and colloquia where candidates present progress, receive feedback, and engage with peers and faculty across related fields.

• A recognised master’s degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent academic and research experience accepted by the faculty).
• A clear research proposal that demonstrates originality, feasibility and alignment with the expertise available among UGM supervisors.
• Academic transcripts and a record of prior research or publications where applicable.
• Letters of recommendation from academic or professional referees who can attest to the applicant’s research potential.
• Evidence of language competence in Indonesian and/or English as required by the chosen programme; some faculties may set specific language or preparatory requirements.
