What you'll study

The programme focuses on the scientific principles of behaviour analysis and their application to assessment and intervention across the lifespan. Core topics include behaviour assessment and functional analysis, principles of learning and behaviour change, single-case research design and data analysis, ethical and professional issues in behaviour analysis, and intervention strategies for autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities.

• Foundations of Behaviour Analysis: history, philosophy, and basic principles of behaviour.
• Measurement and Experimental Design: direct observation, reliability, validity, and single-case designs used in applied settings.
• Functional Behaviour Assessment and Behavioural Assessment: conducting assessments, identifying antecedents/consequences, and developing behaviour support plans.
• Intervention and Treatment Integrity: evidence-based procedures (e.g. reinforcement, shaping, prompting, chaining), generalisation and maintenance strategies.
• Verbal Behaviour and Social Skills: analysis and teaching of communication and social competencies.
• Ethics and Professional Practice: standards of practice, cultural responsiveness, record keeping and confidentiality.
• Practicum/Supervised Experience: structured field placements where students apply techniques under supervision and build clinical skills for professional practice.

The curriculum is delivered through a mix of seminars, applied labs and placement-based learning. Coursework emphasises measurable outcomes, data-driven decision-making and the translation of research into everyday clinical and educational interventions.

Entry requirements

• A recognised bachelor's degree in psychology, education, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, social work, nursing or a related human-services discipline.
• Evidenced academic performance at undergraduate level; programmes typically expect a satisfactory cumulative grade point average. Applicants who do not meet the preferred GPA may be considered with relevant professional experience.
• Prerequisite knowledge in introductory psychology and basic statistics; applicants without prerequisites may be asked to complete specified bridging units before or during the programme.
• Supporting documents including a statement of purpose addressing career goals in behaviour analysis, two academic or professional references, and an up-to-date CV/resume.
• Selection interview may be required for shortlisted candidates to discuss fit with the practicum components and professional intentions.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for a range of applied roles in which behaviour-analytic skills are in demand. Common career pathways include work as behaviour analysts in autism clinics, special education settings, paediatric and adult residential services, health-care organisations, and community agencies. Many graduates go on to pursue BCBA certification and take on roles supervising technicians, designing behaviour support plans, and leading programme evaluation and staff training initiatives.
