What you'll study

This programme builds on core public administration coursework while focusing on management, policy and operations in health care settings. You will study a mix of theoretical and applied topics designed to develop skills in leadership, finance, policy analysis and quality improvement specific to health services.

• Core public administration modules — public sector management, organisational behaviour, ethics in public service, and research methods for public administration.
• Health services management modules — health policy and planning, health care finance and budgeting, strategic management in health organisations, and health care law and regulation.
• Operational and analytical skills — quality improvement and patient safety, health information systems and data use, epidemiology and population health concepts, and performance measurement.
• Applied learning — practicum or internship in a health services setting and a capstone project or thesis applying management and policy tools to a real organisational challenge.
• Optional electives — subjects such as human resource management in health care, health economics, grant writing and non‑profit management, and organisational change in health systems.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a recognised bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Typical entry expects a satisfactory undergraduate academic record; recent, relevant professional experience in health or public service is advantageous and may be required for some routes.

• Official transcripts from all post‑secondary institutions attended.
• A statement of purpose outlining professional goals and reasons for pursuing the MPA with a health specialisation.
• A current résumé/CV and one or two professional or academic references.
• Evidence of English language proficiency for international applicants where applicable (for example, IELTS or TOEFL scores) unless exempt.
• Some applicants may be invited to interview; entry tests such as the GRE are not universally required but may be requested in specific cases or waived depending on prior qualifications and experience.
