What you'll study

This programme blends progressive Spanish language instruction and cultural studies with foundational and applied business courses. In Spanish you will move from intermediate to advanced proficiency, practising speaking, listening, reading and writing; you will study Hispanic literature and film, Latin American and Spanish culture and history, applied linguistics, and translation/interpretation techniques. The curriculum emphasises communicative competence and real-world use of the language in professional settings.

• Core Spanish modules: Advanced Spanish Grammar and Composition; Conversation and Pronunciation; Hispanic Literature; Contemporary Spanish-Speaking Cultures; Translation and Interpreting; Spanish for Specific Purposes (e.g. business, law, healthcare).
• Core business modules: Principles of Management; Financial and Managerial Accounting; Marketing Fundamentals; Microeconomics and Macroeconomics; Business Law and Ethics; Statistics for Business; International Business.
• Applied and integrative work: Business Spanish or Spanish for Professional Contexts; Internship or practicum with a community partner or employer; Capstone project combining a Spanish-language research or consultancy project with business analysis.

Students follow a staged pathway that builds language fluency in the first two years while introducing business concepts, moving toward more specialised business modules and experiential learning in the later years. The programme includes opportunities for study abroad or immersive programmes, and coursework designed to prepare students for entry into Mercy College's MBA programme with recognised advanced standing for qualifying candidates.

Entry requirements

Entry is at undergraduate level and typically requires successful completion of secondary education or its equivalent. Competitive applicants will present a high-school diploma or international equivalent, a record of strong academic performance, and any qualifications in modern languages where available.

• Applicants whose first language is not English will be asked to demonstrate English proficiency through recognised tests or equivalent evidence, unless exempt.
• Prior study of Spanish is beneficial but not always mandatory; placement testing will determine the appropriate starting point in the language sequence.
• Selection may take into account personal statements, references, and interviews where offered, and advanced credit may be awarded for prior college-level work in Spanish or business.
