This programme focuses on the knowledge and skills required to lead school districts and large educational programmes. Core themes include strategic leadership, educational law and policy, finance and budgeting for districts, curriculum and assessment at scale, human resources and labour relations, equity and community engagement, and data-informed decision making.

• Educational Leadership and Policy: theories of district leadership, organisational change, and governance.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree and have current or recent experience in K–12 education. Possession of a valid teaching certificate or school leadership credential is commonly required or strongly preferred for admission.

Typical career paths include assistant superintendent, superintendent, director of curriculum and instruction, director of special education, director of human resources, director of assessment and accountability, and other central-office leadership positions. The programme also equips experienced principals who wish to take on broader strategic responsibilities at the district level.

Alumni commonly work in public school districts, charter management organisations, state education agencies, and non-profit organisations that support K–12 systems. The practicum and capstone projects help build evidence of impact and provide demonstrable experience for promotion or hiring into central-office roles.
