What you'll study

This master’s programme focuses on the knowledge and skills required to lead a school effectively. Core topics include leadership theory and ethics, instructional leadership and curriculum development, school law and policy, finance and human resource management for schools, data-driven decision-making and assessment, equity and cultural responsiveness, and community and family engagement.

• Instructional Leadership and Curriculum: Designing and evaluating curriculum, supporting teacher development, instructional coaching, and strategies for improving student outcomes.
• School Law, Policy and Governance: Legal responsibilities of school leaders, compliance, student rights, and local/state policy context.
• Finance and Resource Management: School budgeting, resource allocation, facilities planning and grant-writing basics.
• Human Resources and Organisational Management: Staff recruitment and development, performance evaluation, conflict resolution and building professional culture.
• Assessment and Data Use: Analysing student achievement data, formative assessment practices and using evidence to inform school improvement plans.
• Equity, Inclusion and Community Engagement: Leading culturally responsive practice, family engagement strategies and partnerships with community stakeholders.
• Practicum / Internship: A supervised school-based residency or internship in which candidates apply leadership skills in a real school context under mentor supervision.
• Capstone or Leadership Project: A culminating project that addresses a real school improvement challenge, demonstrating integration of theory and practice.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and to have current classroom teaching experience. Many candidates will hold a state teaching certification or equivalent professional credential; proven experience in schools (often several years) is typically required. Additional admissions materials commonly include academic transcripts, a personal statement outlining leadership goals, two professional references (typically school-based), and a CV or résumé. Some programmes require a successful interview and background checks or clearances prior to placement in school practicum settings.
