What you'll study

This master's programme develops advanced knowledge in special education theory, assessment, instructional design and inclusive practice. Coursework balances evidence-based classroom strategies with applied assessment and research methods to support learners with mild to moderate and more significant disabilities.

• Foundations of Special Education: historical, legal and ethical frameworks; IDEA and state policy; family and community partnerships.
• Assessment and Differentiated Instruction: formal and informal assessment strategies, progress monitoring, individualised instruction and data-driven decision making.
• Behaviour and Classroom Management: positive behaviour supports, functional behaviour assessment, intervention planning and social-emotional learning.

Entry requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in education or a related field. Applicants with degrees in other fields may be considered if they demonstrate relevant experience or prerequisite coursework.
• Official academic transcripts showing satisfactory undergraduate performance; programmes typically expect a competitive graduate‑level GPA.
• Professional documents such as a current résumé/CV, a statement of purpose outlining professional goals in special education, and one or more letters of recommendation from academic or workplace supervisors.
• State teaching certification in special education or general education may be required or recommended for certain tracks; candidates without certification should check options for non-certification admission or additional prerequisite coursework.
• Proof of English language proficiency for applicants whose first language is not English (accepted tests and minimum scores are set by the university).
• Some applicants may also be asked to participate in an interview or provide a background check before beginning practicum placements.
