UCF’s online Master of Social Work (MSW) is a CSWE‑accredited, part‑time program delivered in a cohort model for students seeking clinical social work practice. It suits applicants with or without a Bachelor of Social Work who need a primarily online curriculum with required local field placements.

What you'll study

Curriculum content emphasizes social work theory, clinical practice skills and field education. Sample course titles and topic areas include:

  • Military Culture and Social Work Practice — working with military‑connected clients, families and communities.
  • Clinical Practice with Individuals — behavioral, crisis and psychosocial theories applied to individual clinical work.
  • Clinical Practice with Families — family‑focused intervention models for transitions such as divorce, single parenting and blended families.

Track structure and credit distribution:

  • Traditional Track: 62 credit hours total — 21 credit hours of required core courses, 18 credit hours of clinical specialization courses, 9 credit hours of electives, plus field experience. Students complete 1,000 field hours (14 credit hours of field experience) in a 3‑year cohort model.
  • Advanced Standing Track: 32 credit hours total — 18 credit hours of required courses, 6 credit hours of electives, plus field experience. Advanced Standing students complete 600 field hours (14 credit hours of field experience) across four semesters in a cohort model and the track runs approximately 16 months.

Entry requirements

Applicants without a qualifying BSW should apply to the Traditional Track. The Advanced Standing Track is for applicants who earned a BSW from a CSWE‑accredited program within the last six years and achieved a 3.3 GPA in their last 60 credit hours. The Advanced Standing track admits once per year in the fall; listed application deadlines include June 1 for fall and March 1 for summer for that track. The program is part‑time only.

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for clinical social work roles and are eligible to sit for state licensure exams; the program meets Florida educational eligibility for Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensure. The MSW supports entry into positions such as social and community service manager, substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselor, marriage and family therapist, child, family and school social worker, and healthcare social worker. National projections cited by the program note average employment growth for social work around 12% through 2030.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

Tuition is charged per credit hour; the online program lists a per‑credit rate of $487.45 and is structured in 7‑week terms. Prospective students should review UCF financial aid webpages and contact the program for available scholarships, assistantships or payment plans and verify total cost estimates based on the chosen track and remaining residency or placement requirements.
