Entry requirements

This is a selective-admissions program; selection follows criteria in the Medical Laboratory Technology Application Book. Applicants should be aware that illicit drug use, criminal background findings or incomplete immunizations can affect future employment and access to externship sites. Completion of the program makes you eligible to apply to take the ASCP exam in Florida; state law (F.S. 483.809) also requires possession of a valid form of identification. If you plan to work outside Florida, confirm licensure requirements with the destination state's board.

Career prospects

Graduates commonly work as medical laboratory technologists in hospitals, clinical laboratories or other diagnostic facilities. Typical duties include processing body fluids and performing chemical, serological and biological analyses to support patient diagnosis and treatment. Successful completion of the program allows graduates to sit for ASCP and AAB certification exams.
