11 Programs 3 Degree levels

An English‑taught, research‑oriented two‑year master’s in biotechnology at the University Medical School of Pécs. Suited for graduates from biology, biotechnology, environmental or selected engineering and health science bachelor programmes who want applied and translational training in drug‑oriented and medical biotechnology.

What you'll study

The course includes advanced molecular, cellular and systems‑level biotechnology topics with two defined specialisations:

  • Pharmaceutical biotechnology: preparation enables graduates to initiate, carry out and coordinate biotechnological design, research and technology development; manufacture biopharmaceuticals and diagnostic products using biotechnological methods; perform analysis and formulation of biotechnology‑derived drugs; and process genomic data and conduct functional genomic studies to support new drug development.
  • Medical biotechnology: training covers molecular and systems biology approaches applicable to cell and tissue engineering; molecular biotechnological and pharmacogenetic concepts for nanotechnology applications; serological and molecular immunological methods and molecular diagnostics (including array and real‑time analysis); knowledge of molecular targets and signalling pathways; creation of complex vectors and transgenic test animals; preclinical and clinical phases of drug research and development; production of autologous transplant tissues; and vector production for gene therapy.

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold a relevant higher education degree and demonstrate adequate English. Full credit recognition is granted for certain bachelor programmes: from the natural sciences training area—biology, biotechnology, environmental science; from engineering—biomedical engineering and environmental engineering. Other bachelor degrees from natural science, agricultural, engineering, medical and health science fields may be recognised after meeting specified credit conditions. Admittance requires at least 40 credits in the listed knowledge areas; missing credits must be completed in parallel with the master’s programme according to the institution's study and exam regulations.

An admission interview is conducted in English, in person, at the PTE ÁOK Immunology and Biotechnology Institute (Honvéd u. 5., Pécs). Published interview dates include 15–16 June 2026 with a make‑up session on 23 June 2026. Applicants eligible for credit recognition must submit a prior credit recognition request to the Faculty Biotechnology MSc secretary (7624 Pécs, Szigeti út 12.) and, if not yet submitted, send it by email to gajdocsi.erzsebet@pte.hu by 10 June 2025 (the faculty provides the form on its site).

Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles in biopharmaceutical development, analytical and formulation work for biotechnology‑derived medicines, diagnostic product development, genomic and functional genomics analysis for drug discovery, molecular diagnostics, vector and transgenic model generation, cell and tissue engineering and preclinical/clinical R&D activities. The two specialisations orient students either toward industrial biopharmaceutical production and regulatory‑aware drug development or toward clinically oriented molecular and cellular biotechnology applications.

Scholarships & funding angle

The programme is available in state‑funded and self‑financed places; the publicly stated self‑funded tuition is 400 000 Ft per semester. Prospective students should contact the Faculty’s Strategic Marketing and Recruitment Office for current scholarship opportunities, state‑funded seat availability and any institution‑level support options.
