Programme overview

This International Master Program on Mathematics Education is a cooperative programme between the University of Utrecht (Netherlands), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa) and Universitas Sriwijaya (Unsri). The full programme runs 2 years and 2 months: approximately 8 months of coursework in Indonesia (at Unesa or Unsri), 1 year of study in the Netherlands (University of Utrecht), and 6 months for research and thesis writing back in Indonesia. The intake includes an intensive English and Mathematics preparatory period delivered in English before the main teaching block.

What you'll study

Coursework and instruction include an initial intensive English and Mathematics programme (delivered in English) followed by the international curriculum split between Indonesia and the University of Utrecht. The final phase consists of 6 months dedicated to conducting research and writing a thesis in Indonesia. If a participant does not meet requirements to continue to the Netherlands, they will proceed with a regular S2 (master) programme at Unesa or Unsri.

Graduates can continue careers in secondary or higher education teaching, academic research in mathematics education, or take on strengthened roles as curriculum developers and teacher trainers. Participants unable to proceed to the Netherlands still complete a recognised S2 master pathway at Unesa or Unsri.
