Universidad Politécnica de Cataluna

8 Programs 2 Degree levels

A one-year taught master's (60 ECTS) combining advanced theoretical and applied mathematics. Suitable for students aiming for research-level training in pure mathematics or for those who want applied-mathematics skills to work in interdisciplinary teams across engineering, physics, biology or economics.

What you'll study

The curriculum allows students to follow one of two focal paths: a pure-mathematics route oriented toward fundamental mathematical research, or an applied-mathematics route intended to prepare students for applied research and collaboration with engineers, physicists, biologists, economists and other disciplines. Students may also include up to 22.5 ECTS taken from other UPC master's programmes in mathematics, statistics or other engineering and applied-science master's to build an interdisciplinary syllabus. The programme combines coursework (45 ECTS) with an independent master's thesis (15 ECTS).

Entry requirements

The public programme page lists access and the study plan but does not publish specific numeric requirements on this page. Candidates should consult the master's web page and UPC admissions information for formal entry procedures and documentation.

Career prospects

The two orientations target different outcomes: the pure-mathematics track prepares students for research roles and further doctoral studies in fundamental mathematics; the applied-mathematics track prepares graduates to work in interdisciplinary teams and applied research areas alongside engineers, scientists and economists. The degree is an official qualification registered with the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

Scholarships & funding angle (general)

The master's page indicates approximate tuition figures (about €1,162 for EU residents and €2,700 for non-EU residents, excluding certain administrative fees) and provides links to information on scholarships and financial aid. Prospective students should review UPC resources on tuition payment and available grants.
