What you'll study

Doctoral candidates must complete 24 credits. Four compulsory courses are provided in the 600 series and four elective courses are chosen from the 500-series elective pool. Non-credit seminar attendance is required, and students admitted in Spring 2022–2023 onwards must also take and pass one career development course coded by LEE.

• First semester (typical): IKE 601E Advanced Microeconomics; IKE 603E Advanced Research Methods; plus two electives.
• Second semester (typical): IKE 602E Advanced Macroeconomics; IKE 604E Advanced Econometrics; IKE 696E Scientific Research, Ethic and Seminar; plus remaining electives.
• Sample elective options include: IKE 508E Game Theory; IKE 517E Time Series Econometrics; IKE 520E Development Economics; IKE 511E Health Economics; IKE 513E Industrial Economics; IKE 514E Panel Data and Cross Sectional Models; IKE 519E Environmental Economics.
• After completing the 24 credits and maintaining the minimum GPA, candidates sit a qualifying exam; passing it permits commencement of dissertation writing.

Entry requirements

Admission thresholds differ by prior degree:

• Applicants with only an undergraduate degree: minimum undergraduate GPA 3.50/4.00 (or 88.33/100).
• Applicants with a master’s degree: minimum master’s GPA 3.10/4.00 (or 79/100).
• Test score minimums: ALES (Equally weighted) 80 or GRE (Quantitative) 156.
• English proficiency minimums: YDS/e-YDS/e-YÖKDİL/e-YÖKDİL 65 or TOEFL 78.
• Other application materials: two reference letters and a statement of purpose.
