What you'll study

Coursework focuses on developing planning, classroom management, instructional practice, assessment, and professional interpersonal skills. Programs prepare teachers to use evidence-based literacy practices aligned with the science of reading. Each certification pathway includes a yearlong student-teaching placement; traditional interns are supervised by Goucher faculty and a mentor teacher through Professional Development School partnerships, while conditional teachers work with a Goucher faculty member to support in-service classroom practice.

Entry requirements

Admission decisions are based on evaluation of applicants' work and experience, an essay, recommendation forms, and academic transcripts. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Career prospects

Graduates complete the program prepared for initial licensure and classroom roles corresponding to their certification area. Licensure pathways listed include elementary, elementary special education, dual elementary and special education, secondary content areas, secondary special education, and dual secondary and special education, enabling employment as classroom teachers in the corresponding grade ranges in Maryland.
