What you'll study

Students complete a 30-hour program of study that incorporates two semesters of internships and culminates in a professional portfolio presented against Arkansas and national accreditation standards. After defending the portfolio students complete an Exit Survey. Course schedules are published on the Graduate Studies in Education page.

Entry requirements

Applicants must submit an online application and request official transcripts. Required documents include two professional or academic recommendations; a principal recommendation addressing program support, current effective performance, and examples of leadership; a copy of current educator license; MMR immunization record; a resume; and documentation of at least one year of licensed teaching experience (e.g., signed contract or official letter). Harding alumni/current students need not request Harding transcripts. Additional policies: provisional admittance may be considered for candidates with undergraduate GPAs between 2.5 and 2.99; an official GRE score may be requested if the prior degree GPA is below 3.0. An admission/advising interview with the program director (phone, virtual, or face-to-face) is required. Applicants must provide documentation of Science of Reading Awareness (Phase I) as specified by Prescribed Pathway Credentials either at admission or before program completion. Note: to be eligible for licensure upon program completion, applicants must have three years of licensed teaching experience.

Career prospects

The program prepares candidates for building-level leadership roles such as school principal or other administrative positions that require principal licensure. The combination of internships and a defended portfolio is intended to demonstrate readiness for school leadership within Arkansas and to meet relevant accreditation-aligned expectations.
