Overview The Herbal Medicinal Science (Top-Up) (Hons) BSc is delivered as a partnership between London Metropolitan University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SUTCM). If you successfully complete the SUTCM pathway programme, you can progress into this top-up year to build advanced knowledge in herbal medicinal science. What you’ll study How herbal medicines are developed and evaluated, combining traditional knowledge with modern scientific methods. Core science foundations including cell biology, bioanalytical science, medicinal chemistry, and toxicology. How plant-derived compounds can be characterised and developed using chemistry and pharmacology approaches. Learning experience Depending on your study plan, you may have the option to complete a work-based placement to gain industry exposure and practical experience. Career outcomes Graduates are prepared for roles in herbal medicinal product development, quality control, and quality assurance. Opportunities may also be available across science-based sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, natural products, and food and agricultural industries. Study location: This top-up pathway may be available at SUTCM in Shanghai or at London Metropolitan University in the UK, subject to eligibility and progression requirements.
The Herbal Medicinal Science (Top-Up) (Hons) BSc is offered through a collaboration between London Metropolitan University and Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SUTCM). This program is designed for students who have completed the SUTCM pathway programme and wish to deepen their understanding of herbal medicinal science through a focused top-up year.
To be eligible for this program, applicants must have successfully completed the relevant SUTCM pathway programme, which allows for progression into the top-up year at London Metropolitan University. No GRE or GMAT examinations are required for admission.
