Eligibility Criteria
The Four Year Fellowships are available to both domestic and international students and are typically offered to those beginning their first year of full-time PhD, DMA, or MDPhD studies, although continuing students may also be eligible. The duration of 4YF funding may vary depending on circumstances, as outlined in the 4YF Guidelines, but in all cases, it is contingent upon satisfactory academic progress.
Students who receive prestigious Tri-Agency awards such as Vanier Scholarships, Doctoral Canada Graduate Scholarships (CGSD), CIHR Doctoral Research Awards, NSERC Doctoral Postgraduate Scholarships (PGSD), and SSHRC Doctoral Fellowships automatically become 4YF designates. These students may be eligible for 4YF tuition coverage and will receive 4YF stipend and tuition support once their external scholarship funding ends, for a maximum of four years from the external award start date or until the end of their 5th year in the Doctoral program, whichever comes first.
Similarly, other recipients of major external scholarships who are selected as 4YF designates may also be eligible for 4YF tuition coverage and will receive 4YF stipend and tuition support after their external scholarship funding ends, for a maximum of four years from the 4YF start date or until the end of their 5th year in the Doctoral program, whichever comes first.
Application Procedure
To be considered for Four Year Fellowship funding, students submit an application for admission to the appropriate graduate program at UBC.
