What you'll study

The programme focuses on advanced pedagogical knowledge and the skills required to plan, implement and evaluate instruction at specified levels and in particular subject areas. Core themes include curriculum design and alignment, assessment for learning, differentiated instruction, inclusive practice and classroom management. You will study contemporary learning theory and the research base for effective instruction, alongside subject- or level-specific methods courses that address planning, resources and assessment in your chosen area (for example elementary literacy, secondary mathematics, or early childhood pedagogy).

Practical components are integral: supervised practicum or school-based fieldwork, lesson observation and video-based reflection are used to bridge theory and practice. The programme typically includes options in instructional coaching, mentoring, and professional development design so graduates can support colleagues and lead in-school learning. Research methods and an applied capstone (action research, portfolio or project) enable you to investigate a focused question from your own practice and demonstrate impact on student learning.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Professional experience in education or a related field is expected for many pathways; some specific-methods tracks may require current teacher certification or classroom experience. Typical application components include academic transcripts, a personal statement outlining professional goals and reasons for pursuing the programme, a current résumé or CV, and at least one or two professional references.

Where applicable, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of satisfactory background checks for school placements and, if English is not your first language, proof of English language proficiency.
