What you'll study

The General Studies and Humanities programme at Pace combines a core liberal arts curriculum with flexible elective options so students can design a pathway that reflects their interests. Core coursework typically includes academic writing and composition, introduction to humanities (literature, philosophy, history and the arts), social science survey courses, quantitative reasoning and a natural science course with laboratory. Students also take courses in research methods, ethics, and multicultural/global perspectives to build analytic and contextual skills.

Beyond the core, students choose from interdisciplinary elective clusters such as literary studies, cultural studies, digital humanities, language and translation, history and public memory, and social inquiry. Many students augment classroom study with practical experiences — internships, community-engaged projects, study abroad, or a practicum — and complete a senior seminar or capstone project that synthesises research and applied learning.

Entry requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; applicants submit official secondary school transcripts.
• Pace considers academic record and a holistic application; standardised tests (SAT/ACT) are optional for many applicants but may be submitted if available.
• A personal statement or essay that explains academic interests and goals in the liberal arts.
• At least one academic letter of recommendation is recommended for typical applicants; transfer applicants provide college transcripts and a statement of prior coursework.
• International applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency (for example, TOEFL or IELTS) unless exempt through prior study in English or other institutional criteria.
• Mature or non-traditional applicants may apply with GED or equivalent credentials and relevant supporting materials.
