What you'll study

The programme combines core training in archaeological theory and methods with hands-on experience in field excavation, laboratory analysis and digital techniques. You will study subjects such as archaeological theory, field methods, stratigraphy and site recording, archaeological science (including dating and material analysis), GIS and spatial analysis, zooarchaeology and bioarchaeology, material culture studies (ceramics, lithics, metalwork), heritage management and public archaeology.

Coursework typically includes a balance of required core modules and electives, allowing specialisation in areas such as maritime and coastal archaeology, historical archaeology, urban archaeology, or archaeological science. Students undertake practical components including field school or supervised excavations, laboratory projects analysing artifacts and ecofacts, and training in geospatial tools and data management. Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology or a related discipline. A CV or résumé and a sample of academic writing or a writing test may also be requested.

Relevant field or laboratory experience is advantageous and can strengthen an application.
