The programme develops advanced nursing knowledge across three pathways: Nursing Administration, Nursing Research and Clinical Nursing. Core coursework builds a foundation in advanced health assessment, healthcare systems and policy, evidence-based practice, advanced pharmacology and research methods. From this foundation, each pathway emphasises different competencies:

• Nursing Administration: courses typically include organisational leadership, financial management for healthcare, quality improvement, human resource management and strategic planning. Students complete project-based learning and practicums focused on unit- or service-level leadership.
• Nursing Research: coursework emphasises research design, biostatistics, advanced qualitative and quantitative methods, grant writing and dissemination of evidence. Students undertake a research practicum and complete either a thesis or a major research project suitable for publication or presentation.
• Clinical Nursing: advanced clinical practice courses focus on specialty assessment, complex care management, clinical decision-making and practicum hours supervised in acute or community settings. Clinical specialisms vary depending on faculty expertise and clinical placement availability.

The programme combines seminar-style classes, skills labs, clinical practicum and a culminating scholarly project or thesis. Delivery formats may include on-campus and blended/online options to accommodate working professionals. Clinical placements are arranged through the university’s healthcare partners to ensure diverse real-world experience.

Entry requirements

Applicants are expected to be Registered Nurses (RN) with a bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) or an equivalent undergraduate nursing qualification. Typical requirements include:

• A current, unencumbered RN licence in the U.S. or eligibility for licensure in the state where clinical placements will occur.
• A bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited programme with a competitive cumulative grade point average; some pathways may require a minimum GPA threshold.
• Clinical experience as a practising RN is normally required; administrative and research pathways may prefer several years of relevant practice.
• Academic transcripts, a professional résumé or curriculum vitae, a personal statement outlining goals and chosen pathway, and professional references.
• Some applicants may be asked to attend an interview. International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements and any credential evaluation requested by the university.

Additional requirements for specific pathways can include prerequisite coursework (for example in statistics) and, for the research pathway, may request evidence of research interest or prior scholarly activity. GRE scores are not universally required; consult the programme admissions guidance for the most current policy.

• Nursing Research: clinical research coordinator, research nurse, outcomes analyst, or progression to doctoral study (PhD or DNP) and roles in academic research, policy analysis or industry-sponsored clinical trials.
