What you'll study

The programme blends core international relations theory with applied national security topics to provide a broad yet practice-oriented education. You will study the historical and theoretical foundations of international politics alongside courses that address contemporary security challenges, policy formation and analytical skills.

• Core international relations: introductory and advanced international relations theory, comparative politics, foreign policy analysis and international political economy.
• National security and security studies: national security policy, homeland security, terrorism and insurgency, intelligence fundamentals, cyber security policy and defence studies.
• Law and institutions: international law, human rights, diplomatic practice and the role of multilateral organisations.
• Research and methods: qualitative and quantitative research methods, critical thinking, data analysis for policy and a senior capstone project or thesis.
• Practical experience: internships, practicum placements, simulation exercises (such as crisis simulation or model diplomacy) and opportunities for field study or study abroad.
• Electives and concentrations: students may select electives in areas such as intelligence analysis, cybersecurity, regional studies, public policy, or emergency management to tailor the degree to career goals.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a recognised secondary school completion credential or equivalent. Admission typically requires submission of official transcripts and a completed application; additional materials such as a personal statement, résumé and letters of recommendation may strengthen an application.

Standard academic credentials are assessed on a holistic basis; standardised test scores (for example SAT or ACT) may be considered where provided but are not always required. International applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency through recognised tests or equivalent qualifications unless exempt.

Transfer students with prior college credit are welcome and credits are assessed individually; prospective students should consult the admissions office about credit transfer, placement and any programme-specific prerequisites.
