What you'll study

This interdisciplinary degree blends core international relations theory with applied national security topics. You will build a foundation in political science, comparative politics and international law before moving into specialised modules on national security, intelligence studies, US foreign policy, diplomacy and regional studies. Coursework typically includes research methods, statistics for social sciences, and a capstone or senior seminar that requires a research project or practicum tied to a real-world organisation.

Entry requirements

Doane looks for applicants with a strong academic record and evidence of interest in politics, history, languages or international affairs. Typical requirements include a secondary school qualification equivalent to the US high school diploma, A-levels, or IB diploma. Applicants normally present a transcript showing consistent academic achievement and at least one teacher reference; a personal statement explaining interest in international relations or national security is also expected.

• For applicants from the UK and similar systems: three full A-levels (or equivalent) with competitive grades; admissions tutors consider subject relevance such as history, politics, economics or a modern language.
• International applicants: recognised secondary credential and proof of English proficiency where required (TOEFL, IELTS or equivalent), unless exempt.
