What you'll study

This PhD is primarily a research degree built around an original doctoral dissertation, supervised by faculty experts in biblical studies, historical theology, systematic theology, practical theology and ethics. Candidates take part in a structured programme of advanced seminars and research training designed to sharpen methodological, historical and theological skills.

• Research seminars: advanced seminars on research methods in theology, historiography, and interdisciplinary approaches to religious studies.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a relevant master’s degree (for example an MA in Theology, MTh, MDiv or equivalent) with evidence of strong academic performance and the capacity to undertake doctoral research. Typical application materials include:

• a detailed research proposal outlining the proposed dissertation topic, research questions, methodology and bibliography;
• academic transcripts from prior study and a curriculum vitae showing relevant academic and ministerial experience;
• letters of academic reference, and where applicable, a reference from a supervising or employing ministerial body;

• a prospective interview with potential supervisors may be requested to assess fit and research readiness.
