What you'll study

This programme grounds you in microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics while integrating modules that address environmental issues, resource economics and public policy. You will study how markets and institutions interact with natural systems, and how policy instruments can be designed and evaluated to address pollution, climate change and resource depletion.

• Core economics modules: principles of micro- and macroeconomics, intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, econometrics and quantitative methods for economists.
• Environmental and policy modules: environmental economics, natural resource economics, climate change economics, cost–benefit analysis for environmental policy, and environmental regulation and governance.
• Applied skills and electives: GIS and spatial analysis for environmental planning, environmental valuation techniques, energy economics, sustainable development, and elective options from environmental science, public policy or political economy.
• Capstone and research experience: a final-year dissertation or policy project that typically involves empirical analysis, fieldwork or a policy evaluation conducted under faculty supervision.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have completed secondary education with strong performance in quantitative subjects. Typical admissions expect competence in mathematics or a quantitative discipline, and evidence of analytical skills.

• Domestic applicants: successful completion of secondary qualifications with good grades; prior study in mathematics, economics or a related subject is advantageous.
