What you'll study

The programme offers advanced training across Romance languages (such as French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese) and in theoretical and applied linguistics relevant to Romance-language inquiry. Entry requirements

• A master’s degree in a relevant field (for example Romance languages, comparative literature, linguistics, or a closely related discipline) is normally expected; outstanding applicants with a strong bachelor’s degree and significant preparatory experience may be considered.
• Academic transcripts showing strong performance in previous university study.
• A statement of purpose outlining research interests, proposed area(s) of specialization, and reasons for pursuing a PhD at the University of Iowa.
• A writing sample that demonstrates research potential; for literary applicants this is typically a research paper, for linguistics applicants an analysis or research report.
