What you'll study

• Clinical nursing (clinical pathway) – clinical scholarship, practice-based research methods, clinical trial design and outcomes measurement. The clinical pathway prepares nurses to lead and conduct research in clinical settings but does not itself confer clinical certification.
• Teaching and pedagogy – curriculum design, assessment, and preparation for academic roles including supervised teaching experiences.
• Dissertation – an original, peer-reviewable research project conducted under faculty supervision that contributes to the scholarly literature in nursing.

Programme delivery typically blends seminars, online coursework and face-to-face intensive sessions. Students progress from coursework to comprehensive/qualifying examinations and then to dissertation proposal and research. Residency or on-campus requirements and practicum experiences vary by pathway.

Entry requirements

• Current, unencumbered registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Master's degree in nursing or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Applicants with exceptional clinical and academic preparation but with a different master’s specialism may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
• A strong academic record, typically demonstrated by a competitive GPA in graduate study. Exact thresholds are set by the programme.
• Supporting materials including a current CV or résumé, statement of research interests and goals, and a writing sample or scholarly paper.
• Letters of recommendation (usually two or three) from academic and/or professional referees able to comment on research potential.
• Interview with faculty may be required for shortlisted candidates. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the university's English language proficiency requirements.
• Some pathways may expect or prefer prior research experience, published work, or clinical leadership experience relevant to the chosen concentration.
