What you'll study

The programme combines advanced nursing theory, health systems content and applied practice. Students follow one of three tracks—Nursing Administration, Nursing Research or Clinical Nursing—each with a shared core and specialised coursework.

• Core topics: advanced health assessment and clinical reasoning, healthcare policy and ethics, leadership and organisational behaviour in healthcare, quality improvement, healthcare finance and population health.
• Nursing Administration track: strategic leadership in nursing, human resources and workforce development, budgeting and fiscal management for health services, legal/regulatory issues, change management and performance measurement. Capstone experiences emphasise operational leadership and system-level project implementation.
• Nursing Research track: research design and methods, biostatistics and data analysis, evidence-based practice, grant writing and research ethics. Students typically complete a thesis or a substantial research project that culminates in dissemination of findings.
• Clinical Nursing track: advanced clinical decision-making, complex care management, advanced pharmacology and pathophysiology, clinical practicum(s) focused on speciality or population-based care, and implementation of evidence-based interventions in direct care settings.
• Practice and assessment: depending on track, the programme includes supervised clinical experiences or practicum hours, a leadership or research capstone, and coursework that emphasises interprofessional collaboration and current informatics tools.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited institution or an equivalent nursing degree and possess an active, unencumbered RN licence in the jurisdiction where clinical experiences will occur. Typical requirements include:

• Official transcripts demonstrating a competitive undergraduate GPA.
• Current RN licence and verification of clinical experience; many successful applicants have at least one to two years of practice experience, particularly for administration and clinical tracks.
• A professional résumé or curriculum vitae and a personal statement outlining career goals and reasons for pursuing graduate study.
• Letters of recommendation from academic or professional references who can speak to clinical competence, leadership potential or research aptitude.
• For the Nursing Research track, preparation in statistics or research methods is advantageous; the programme may require completion of prerequisite courses if background is limited.
• International applicants must meet English language proficiency requirements and provide credential evaluations for degrees earned outside the United States.
