What you'll study

The BSN curriculum combines nursing theory, biological and behavioural sciences, and supervised clinical practice to prepare graduates for licensure as registered nurses and for roles in administration, research and direct clinical care. Core topics include human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, health assessment, pathophysiology, adult health nursing, maternal and child health, mental health nursing, community and public health, and evidence‑based practice.

Students also study leadership, management and quality improvement relevant to nursing administration, and methods of inquiry, statistics and research design that underpin nursing research. Clinical nursing preparation emphasises assessment and intervention across care settings, advanced clinical reasoning, and care coordination.

Applicants should hold a secondary school diploma or equivalent with a competitive academic record. Typical prerequisites include one or more semesters of biology, chemistry, and college‑level composition; courses in anatomy and physiology and statistics are commonly expected or recommended.

Selection is competitive and usually considers overall GPA, performance in science prerequisites, and demonstrated commitment to nursing through volunteer or clinical experience. Some applicants may be required to submit scores from a nursing‑readiness assessment (for example, a standardised admissions test), and to participate in an interview or portfolio review.

Before clinical placements students must meet professional requirements such as background checks, immunisations and health screenings, basic life support (CPR) certification, and any drug‑screening requirements. International applicants should demonstrate English language proficiency in line with university policy.

Career prospects

Graduates are eligible to sit for the national licensure examination for registered nurses and typically find employment in acute care hospitals, community health agencies, long‑term care, ambulatory clinics and public health organisations. With experience, graduates move into specialised clinical roles such as critical care nurse, oncology nurse, neonatal nurse or nurse educator.

Those who focus on nursing administration are prepared for roles in charge nursing, nurse management, quality improvement and healthcare operations.
