What you'll study

The programme covers the four core language skills—speaking, listening, reading and writing—alongside grammar, vocabulary development and pronunciation practice. Early stages focus on Hangul and basic conversational structures; later stages emphasise complex grammar, extensive reading, essay writing and oral presentation skills. Courses commonly include TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean) preparation, Korean media and contemporary culture, business Korean for professional contexts, and applied language workshops such as pronunciation clinics and conversation lab sessions.

Teaching methods combine classroom instruction, pair and group activities, regular homework, formative quizzes and summative assessments. Cultural components such as field trips, language exchange with Korean students and traditional arts sessions are integrated to support real-world use of the language.

Entry requirements

Applicants should normally hold a secondary school qualification or the equivalent; mature applicants with relevant experience may also be considered. No prior Korean is required for beginner-level entry, while placement into intermediate or advanced levels is determined by a placement test or previous study transcripts. Applicants will need to provide proof of identity and meet any visa requirements for study in Korea; additional documentation may be required for those applying from outside Korea. Proficiency in English is helpful for administrative communication but is not a substitute for placement testing in Korean.

Career prospects

Graduates use their Korean language skills in a wide range of roles. Typical paths include positions in multinational companies with Korean operations, international trade and business development, translation and interpretation (often with further specialised training), diplomacy and public service, tourism and hospitality, journalism and media focused on Korea, and education roles such as Korean language teaching assistantships. The diploma also prepares students for further academic study in Korea, including undergraduate or postgraduate programmes that require Korean-language competency.
