What you'll study

The programme emphasises core computer science foundations together with specialised web software skills. In early studies you will cover programming, discrete mathematics, data structures and algorithms, and basics of software engineering. Parallel coursework introduces web fundamentals such as HTML/CSS/JavaScript, client–server architecture, databases, networking and web security.

As you progress, modules deepen into front-end frameworks and responsive design, server-side programming, database design and optimisation, RESTful services and API design, cloud platforms and containerisation, performance engineering, and web application security. Courses on human–computer interaction, usability testing and product development ensure you can design user-centred web interfaces.

Practical, project-based learning is central: team projects simulate real development cycles, covering requirements, version control, continuous integration, testing and deployment. The programme culminates in an individual or group bachelor’s thesis where you implement and document a substantial web system or research topic related to web technologies.

Entry requirements

Applicants need the general eligibility for higher education in Finland or an equivalent international qualification. Strong demonstrated grounding in mathematics and a good command of English are required. Prior programming experience is expected and is advantageous at the application stage.

Selection typically considers upper secondary examination results and/or entrance examination performance and may include assessments of mathematical and problem-solving ability. Career prospects

Graduates are prepared for roles across the web and software industry. Typical entry positions include front-end developer, back-end developer, full‑stack developer, web application engineer, DevOps engineer and QA/test engineer. With additional experience or study, graduates move into system architect, cloud engineer, product manager or technical lead roles.
