The MSc Sustainable Sport Business is a one-year postgraduate programme that equips graduates with the knowledge and tools to embed sustainability into sport organisations, events and commercial operations. It suits recent graduates and professionals from sport, business or environmental backgrounds who want to lead sustainability strategy, policy and practice in the sport sector.
This programme combines sport management, sustainability science and business practice to explore how sport organisations can reduce environmental impact, improve social value and operate responsibly. Teaching covers theory and practical application, with an emphasis on measurement, strategy and leadership.
Typical entry is a good second-class honours degree (2:1 or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as sport management, business, environmental science, engineering, geography or a related subject. Applicants with a lower-class undergraduate degree plus substantial relevant professional experience in sport, events, sustainability or corporate responsibility may also be considered.
Applicants whose first language is not English will be asked to demonstrate proficiency through an approved English language test at a level typically expected for postgraduate study (for example IELTS or equivalent). Shortlisted candidates may be invited to interview or asked to provide a statement of purpose and references outlining their interest and experience in sustainable sport practice.
Graduates are prepared for roles where sport and sustainability intersect. Typical career paths include sustainability officer or manager for clubs, venues or governing bodies; sustainability and legacy roles within major event organisations; CSR or partnerships roles in commercial sport organisations; sustainability consultancy for sport and leisure clients; policy and advocacy roles in NGOs and charities; and sustainability-focused roles in public sector bodies that work with sport.
The programme also provides a strong foundation for further research or doctoral study in areas such as sport policy, environmental management and social impact in sport.
