What you'll study

The programme combines programmes in political science, law, economics, history and cultural studies to give a broad but rigorous understanding of Europe and European integration. Teaching covers EU institutions and governance, European public policy, comparative politics of European states, EU law fundamentals, the political economy of the European Union, migration and border policy, regionalism, democracy and human rights in Europe, and contemporary security challenges.

Students follow a mix of core modules, elective seminars and practical components. Typical modules include:

• Institutions and Decision‑Making in the EU – structures, processes and policy‑making at EU level.
• Comparative European Politics – party systems, electoral behaviour and state models across Europe.
• EU Law and Fundamental Rights – primary and secondary law, the Court of Justice, rights protection mechanisms.
• European Political Economy – integration, single market, monetary relations and regional disparities.
• Migration, Borders and Citizenship – policy responses, social effects and legal frameworks.
• Research Methods for European Studies – qualitative and quantitative methods, research design and data sources.

The degree normally requires completion of taught modules, a research seminar, practical assignments (such as policy briefs or simulations), and an independent master’s thesis. Language training and optional internships or placements with public institutions, NGOs or think tanks are commonly available to support professional skills.

Entry requirements

Applicants are typically expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as political science, international relations, law, economics, history or another social science/humanities field. Application materials usually include a curriculum vitae, transcripts of previous study, a personal statement or motivation letter outlining academic and professional goals, and at least one academic reference.

Instruction is delivered in English for international tracks; applicants whose previous degree was not taught in English will normally need to demonstrate proficiency in English through a recognised test or other institutional proof. Additional language skills in Polish or another European language are an advantage but not always mandatory. Some specialisations may require prior coursework in social science methods or introductory knowledge of European institutions.
