What you'll study

The History and Politics degree brings together core approaches from both disciplines. You will study historical periods and themes alongside political theory, comparative politics and international relations. Typical first-year modules introduce historical methods and skills, and basic political concepts and institutions.

• Historical modules: history of Britain, empire and global connections, modern revolutions, social and cultural history, and training in source analysis and research methods.
• Political modules: political theory, comparative government, public policy, international relations, and introductory quantitative and qualitative methods for political analysis.
• Progression & assessment: in later years you choose optional modules that reflect your interests (for example diplomacy and security, environmental politics, gender and politics, or empire and migration).
