What you'll study

This programme combines advanced management accounting techniques with strategic business analysis and research methods. You will study the role of accounting information in strategy formulation, performance measurement and value creation across different organisational contexts.

• Core topics: Strategic Management Accounting, Advanced Management Accounting, Strategic Cost Management, Performance Measurement and Balanced Scorecard, Corporate Governance and Ethics.
• Analytical and technical modules: Management Accounting Information Systems, Financial Strategy and Risk Management, Data Analytics for Management Accounting, Strategic Decision Making.
• Research and project work: Research Methods in Accounting, a supervised dissertation or applied project that requires independent investigation of a strategic accounting issue.

Programme delivery typically mixes lectures, seminars, case studies, group projects and applied research. Assessment methods include examinations, individual and group coursework, case reports and a final dissertation or practicum project. Part-time and full-time study pathways are commonly offered, with completion spanning one to two years depending on mode and thesis/project requirements.

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally expected to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related discipline, or an equivalent professional qualification. Candidates with relevant professional qualifications (for example from recognised accounting bodies) or substantial relevant work experience in accounting, finance or management may also be considered.

Typical admissions requirements include evidence of satisfactory academic performance at undergraduate level and the ability to undertake postgraduate research and coursework. Applicants whose first language is not English may need to demonstrate appropriate English proficiency. All applicants will be assessed on the basis of their academic records, curriculum vitae and, where relevant, an interview or statement of purpose.
